UCSD Health opens McGrath Outpatient Pavilion, first step in Hillcrest overhaul
The McGrath Outpatient Pavilion at UC San Diego Soundness s Hillcrest medicinal campus Photo by Alex Matthews UC San Diego Strength UC San Diego Fitness Monday opened the McGrath Outpatient Pavilion at its Hillcrest location the first major milestone in redeveloping the -acre biological campus The -square-foot facility is intended to provide greater availability for diagnostic recovery surgical and cancer care We are excited to open this new space which reflects our dedication to advancing academic medicine enabling us to educate research and serve our population with impact UCSD Chancellor Pradeep K Khosla noted in a message It will empower the next generation of healthcare leaders to innovate discover and deliver compassionate world-class care We are grateful to the donors and several region supporters who helped make this project realizable Laurie McGrath and the McGrath Family Foundation donated million to name the facility and Price Philanthropies and the Price family contributed million to establish the Barbara Parker MD Breast Center and name the Price Philanthropies Foundation Plaza Additional advocacy came from Carol and Jeff Chang Irwin and the late Joan Jacobs and the Strength Sciences Board of Advisors in naming the Steven R Garfin MD Orthopaedic Surgery Clinic My motivation to give to UC San Diego Wellbeing stemmed from more than its advanced diagnostics and treatments I was profoundly moved by the doctors and helpers and the overall experience of care announced Laurie McGrath president of the McGrath Family Foundation They guided my family through illness with kindness professionalism and compassion I required others in the society to have access to this same top care It was gratifying to make a gift that is helping the fitness system expand and bring safe reliable and high-quality soundness services to Hillcrest an area of San Diego in growing need of this special care McGrath Family Foundation President Laurie McGrath signs a beam at the topping out ceremony for the new outpatient pavilion in Photo courtesy of Carrie Byington The facility includes ambulatory surgery suites operating rooms and imaging technologies according to a UCSD announcement It also brings together a multi-specialty cancer clinic a breast center an infusion clinic and advanced radiation therapy as well as a suite of other specialties and expanded space for Moores Cancer Center This is our first major assets aimed at dramatically increasing access to our world-class cancer services announced Patty Maysent CEO of UCSD Wellness McGrath is a new model of excellence bringing together integrated multidisciplinary care leading-edge clinical trials and exceptional cancer medication all under one roof to deliver the highest standards of care available currently Other additions include artwork commissioned from San Diego artists and a cashier-less shop The McGrath building is the first phase of a larger Hillcrest Curative Campus Redevelopment Project that includes a new -space parking structure with an underground connection to the pavilion The pavilion also features intentional respite areas for doctors and staff UCSD executives mentioned Future phases of the project are scheduled to include workforce housing retail services and large green spaces City News Amenity contributed to this article
